We want to post an update on the progress our committee and our community is making with the Burros. Our most recent committee meeting was on 10/31/24 at 8am. We had several residents attend and sign up as volunteers. Thank you! We moved forward with discussing the current status and action items related to the rescue plan we are following from TEXAS Rescue. We reviewed all the many offers from volunteers, donations, equipment loans, and private land usage that have been pouring in from many residents and other locals. Thank y’all so much! We went over the approvals received from the DMPOA Board’s meeting in October, and discussed what else we needed to get approval from the Board for today at November’s meeting.

Today, the Board gave us approval to be able to accept donated/loaned equipment. They gave us approval to use the private lands being offered by landowners to us. We shared our set goal of 50 donkeys to be caught and removed from the DMR over this next year, which was also approved. We are so grateful for all the support!

We are moving forward on gathering resources related to castration plans, by talking to local vets, obtaining prices, and reaching out to vet schools for possibilities as well.

We heard from our resident volunteer regarding their plans to receive licensing and training for administering birth control to the jennies in the coming months, and discussed the safety and effectiveness of various possibities from several sources.

We are moving forward with pricing and purchasing of needed panels, assessing of the many offers of donated/loaned panels from several residents, as well as assessing the many offers of private land usage offers for setting up the pens in ideal locations.

We are moving forward with plans to remove 3 jacks, which are to be adopted by a local neighbor at their request. If anyone knows of other people willing to adopt one or more of the burros, please let us know!

We are moving forward with the plans to capture the next trailer-full of burros to be rehomed with TEXAS Rescue, once we obtain and assemble the first pens.

We are still gathering names of people willing to volunteer to help with the physical labor of the upcoming pen set-ups and for pen workers to feed, water, etc., so please let us know if you are available!
